Gardens by the Bay, Singapore

What a gloriously sunny day! We decided to visit the Gardens by the Bay.  Similar in ideas to the Eden Project in Cornwall, England, there are two massive biomes which house a multitude of flowers, shrubs and trees from different climates across the globe.

One of the biomes has a massive waterfall and a high walkway representing what it is like high up in the cloud forests...Gradually curving downwards, one can see wide varieties of the flora and fauna that grow.

There are also dire warnings about what will die out if global warming continues because cloud levels will be affected and this will change the amounts of moisture and sunlight at different altitudes.  In turn the effect on vegetation will affect wildlife as the food sources diminish. Very worrying about what may no longer be in existence within 50-100 years...

Trying to practise what they preach and be eco-friendly, the gardens have a biomass heater underground.  Most of the waste from the site can be reduced, reused and recycled.

Outside, weirdly shaped giant tree-like structures have greenery growing up them.  This disguises the fact that they are actually vents for the excess gases which are produced by the biomass heater and not utilised for heating water within the grounds.

There are several restaurants/food outlets around the park.  Reasonably priced and with an interesting selection of foods, they also offer special menus for children which are served in cute stacking dishes in the form of bears!

There are other delights for children in the form of a water park and adventure playground with lots to climb on, in, under, over and through.
