About the blog

The initial aim of my blog is to share thoughts about life and my adventures whilst I travel. It may develop into something more, who knows?

"I wish I could just take time to travel and explore places..."

Like many people, it began for me with a wish for change in my life. In fact, our lives are full of changes every day; it's the size of them that differs!  Over time, I realised that I wanted a MASSIVE change and I began dreaming different scenarios of how I could make it happen.

Several major events over recent years gradually brought me to the point where the decision became obvious.  Around Christmas 2013, it dawned on me that I had reached a stage in my life where I had no responsibilities to/for anyone; added to this, I had reached a stage in my career where I was happy with my achievements.  Ideas swirled, emotions swelled and receded, and a plan began to form.

It's truer to say plans as, the more I shared thoughts with my friends and the more I researched, new ideas emerged. It was unbelievably exciting to investigate places to visit, in which 'order' and in which direction of travel around the world.

I’d already travelled to several places across the globe, so I wanted new experiences.  Asia in particular was high on the list.  My friends were really supportive.  My boss and colleagues were brilliant too – especially understanding that it was the right decision for me at this point in my life and career.  In fact everyone was so encouraging, although many expressed envy of my position along with their good wishes.  Yes, there were some words of caution but all with the underlying message: GO GIRL!!

I had a couple of places and people I wanted to see,
and a long list of jobs to complete, before heading off on my circumnavigation of the globe.  Finally, on a warm May day, a friend and I set off in a sleek, sporty Jaguar for a road trip through northern France and into Switzerland.  Footloose Fi's Grand Adventure Part I had begun!
